Brian Hecht Bass Trombone Mouthpieces
When talking with musicians from around the world I’ve noticed that many that have had success in the music field do things a little different than others. I like to study these successes and try to figure out the back story and how/why these people are able to advance many times in auditions when others do not.
Brian Hecht is one of these individuals I’ve studied for quite some time, and in passing we started talking about auditions and mouthpieces that he uses. Brian told me that he has three pieces that he uses that are very similar in rim shape, but vary in throat size and external weight. These small differences give him the ideal weight for the type of sound he needs in the orchestra, the timbre choices for solo repertoire, and the stability for auditions when care is needed to make sure everything comes together during “that time”.
After discussing these ideas and concepts we decided to work together to let other bass trombone players in on his secrets. We worked via USPS Priority mail many times back and forth getting these ideas into their brass homes. Brian Hecht’s concepts can be found in three sizes, and three different models. Once you find the right cup diameter you can then find the perfect mouthpiece for your overall needs, or purchase all three to use as Brian intended.
We hope you enjoy these mouthpieces and the timbre they bring to your bass trombone.
