Bass Trombone

We've worked with a lot of bass trombonists and have noticed an interesting trend -- most of them play a mouthpiece one size larger than they should. If extra care is given when play testing, bass trombonists will be able to find a more effecient mouthpiece for their needs, one that maintains its characteristics in all registers. Bass Model 2

Players who play a Bach 1.5 will love the feel of the Griego 2. Most bass trombone mouthpieces are unbalanced, which causes a wide array of sound widths and tonal colors throughout the different registers. We have paid very close attention to the balance between the cup, throat, and backbore of our mouthpieces. The end result in the 2 is a mouthpiece that maintains tonal color no matter the tessitura. The upper register maintains the core sound without becoming diffuse. The lower register is full with plenty of energy in the sound.

Bass Model 1.5

Flexibility and comfort are not to be sacrificed with this mouthpiece. The slightly flat rim in combination with the medium deep cup makes this a great solo type mouthpiece. The model 1.5 is also good for commercial and jazz playing.

The .75 is ten thousandths larger than than the Griego 1 and ten thousandths smaller than the .5. By adding this model, we are making a conscious effort to provide every bass trombonist with the ideal mouthpiece.

Bass Model .5

We have paid very close attention to the balance between the cup, throat, and backbore of our mouthpieces. The end result in the .5 is a larger mouthpiece that maintains tonal color no matter the tessitura. The upper register maintains the core sound without becoming diffuse. The lower register is full with plenty of energy in the sound. The larger cup size of the .5 allows the player to increase the size of the sound as they descend in range.

Bass Model .25

The Griego .25 is the largest bass mouthpiece we make. Although we can honestly say that this model has great response and an even sound in all registers, in reality this mouthpiece is for professionals that have a consistent practice schedule and are used to playing very large equipment. If a person is lacking in air support and embouchure development, the .25 will not be very forgiving.

New York
Nouveau
The NY blank weighs slightly more than modern day Bach mouthpieces (Elkhart blanks). Its weight is distributed evenly around the bottom of the cup. This results in an even core of sound with overlapping overtones, creating a tone quality that is thicker than conventional mouthpieces. The NY also provides the midrange overtones that are often lost with other mouthpieces.
Deco
Deco
The Deco blank is heavier in mass than the NY blank. The added weight is great for large bass trombone mouthpieces that may have thinner walls due to larger inner cup diameters. It is very free blowing and can provide a bigger, darker sound than mouthpieces with less weight. The Deco also provides stability, which can help define partials on those trombones where extra focus is needed.

Nouveau
Our newest mouthpiece blank, the Nouveau was created to give trombonists the flexibility a lighter mouthpiece can provide. It provides a width of sound and wider partial feel for a natural playing experience. Every tone and timbre can be manipulated, making the Nouveau a very expressive mouthpiece.
